4th Sunday of Advent

Dec 21, 2025

Dear Friends in Christ,

I have to share with you one of the most amazing days of my priesthood.  I did not know what to expect for our special Advent, “8 to 8, Forgiveness is Great!” 12-hour Confession marathon.  I actually brought a few books with me thinking I would have time to read.  Instead, I was overwhelmed by the response of our parishioners.  Fr. Peter was able to help in the evening, and we heard confessions literally for 12 hours straight!  Praise the Lord!

Many people asked how I was doing, if I was tired.  I need to tell you that I think it was a minor miracle of God’s Grace that the time flew by and I was energized the whole time.  I can’t explain it other than to thank God, it was amazing.  I’ve always thought that hearing confessions is the most Christ like and priestly thing I can do.  There is something special about those moments where we can all experience the unconditional love of God.  Hearing and saying those words, “May God grant you pardon and peace and I absolve you from your sins” is such a joy.  Especially for anyone who has not heard them for awhile or for those who are burdened by past or present sins – what a relief it is to know that we are loved, forgiven, and called to renewed holiness and life with God.  I really think if was one of the greatest days of my priesthood.  We will definitely try to do it again in Lent and maybe with some more priests.

Finally, I really should wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!  I especially want to bless any of our parishioners who may be traveling for Christmas.  Also for any family members coming here for Christmas, we can’t wait to welcome them.  God Bless!

You Light the Way!

Fr. Matt
