Dear Friends in Christ,
We have been so blessed recently with many new liturgical ministers to serve our parish. New Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Sacristans, Video Ministers, Ushers, Altar Servers, and even a new ministry of Greeters. I am so grateful for all of you! Our philosophy to encourage service is to make it attractive, yes we have a need, but that by itself is not the greatest motivator to serve. I want you to serve because it is a blessing to serve, it is fun and fulfilling. Not only are you helping but you are meeting new friends and growing closer to the Lord. However, there are times when a real need presents itself – our GIFT program is going great and one of the things that really helps is child care being available in the Nursery. I can’t imagine a service that would be more of a blessing and help to our families. Like all of our volunteers you will be trained and go through our Child Protection program called VIRTUS. Finally, it is time for my annual pitch to parents about Halloween costumes. Halloween is a fun time and for Catholics it is All Hallows Eve (the night before All Saints Day). Please try to encourage your children to dress up in holy ways to honor this special evening. There are lots of great saints, some of them even scary looking. There are also lots of good things to dress up as, such as teachers, first responders, or other noble occupations our young ones might aspire to. Bloody costumes of monsters or evil things with weapons or things simply meant to cause fear is not something to aspire to or play around with. I like a good scary movie; I like candy and trick-or-treating – doing this while creatively honoring holiness makes it awesome!
