Dear Friends in Christ,
What a joyous Christmas season we had at SKD! As you can tell by our beautiful new green banners in the sanctuary we have begun the first season of Ordinary Time. Special thanks to Becky Mathsen for making our new decorations.
If you thought Advent and Christmas was busy here at SKD I am starting to see that leading up to Lent and Easter will be even busier and super exciting. We have lots of social events coming up. We just had our quarterly KofC Bingo and Team Trivia night is around the corner. I am so looking forward to our Mardi Gras celebration, which is very close to the Feast Day of St. Katharine Drexel. Our Parish Synod process is in the preparation stages and we also have one of the most important events of the whole year coming up – the Volunteer Appreciation night and the Drexel awards. Every Weekend should be volunteer appreciation! I am so grateful for the amazing parishioners who give so much time and talent for our worship and our outreach ministries. I want to thank everyone at every Mass. However, I came to the realization that those who serve the parish community don’t do it for recognition and some would rather give selflessly without applause. There is another group of people with us every week that also deserves special recognition and those are the newcomers and visitors. It takes a lot to get up and come to a Church where you might not know many people or when you are just thinking about getting back into the practice of the faith. These are the folks that we should do everything we can to acknowledge, welcome, and support. Please join me every weekend in being intentional to welcome anyone new or who might be thinking about coming back to Church. In some ways these are the most important folks in Church who we want to celebrate in a special way. God love you!
