One of our second collections each month is for the Frederick County Parish Tuition Assistance Fund, an inter-parish cooperative venture that awards tuition assistance to families of participating parishes for Catholic School tuition based on financial need. The first awards were made for academic year 2015-16, and you will see on a bulletin insert that over $1.6 million dollars has been awarded to qualifying families since then! Thanks to all those who support this educational ministry of the church through this monthly second collection.
In case you were away last weekend, I announced at all Masses that our new pastor as of 1 July will be Fr. Matt Buening, who is currently pastor of Saint Matthew/Blessed Sacrament parish in northeast Baltimore City. Since he was ordained a priest, Fr. Matt has served in three parishes and also led Campus Ministry at Towson University in Baltimore for several years. He is a person of deep faith, filled with compassion for others, and one of the friendliest priests I have ever met! I am happy to say that he is also a very good homilist. My packing and cleaning has not been going very well, but this announcement makes this process all the more necessary for me now….
Over the next few weeks on a table in the narthex, we will have theological/spiritual/religious books on display for you to peruse and help yourself— just leave whatever donation you would like! This is a result of multiple copies in our parish library and a surplus of other religious material that has accumulated. So use this opportunity to deepen your understanding of church history or church ethics or the spiritual life and deepen your relationship with God.
This weekend we have the occasion to say, “thank you” to all fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, and foster fathers—and so, for all of your love, and your support, and your care over the years, we say with love “Happy Father’s Day”!
