This weekend we once again welcome Fr. Michael McDermott to preside at weekend Masses while I am away.  Fr. Mike has retired from parish ministry in Nebraska and moved here to live with his sister.  He will be serving as part-time chaplain at Saint John’s Catholic Prep, and also visiting the Catholic patients at Frederick Health Hospital, in addition to assisting with Masses in area parishes. Fr. Mike served at several parishes in Nebraska, in addition to getting a degree in Canon Law and working in the Tribunal Office.  He is also a licensed mental health practitioner (in Nebraska), and has served as a Global Fellow for Catholic Relief Services. We welcome him to Frederick!

From Monday to Friday this past week, many of our parish children were learning how much Jesus loves them at our Vacation Bible School.  We had about 60 children participating in our Vacation Bible School and are so grateful for over 40 dedicated volunteers this summer—both adults and youth!  See the bulletin insert this weekend listing the many people who helped– and you can view pictures and videos of the week’s activities on our website: www.saintdrexel.org.

Please take note of the details on a bulletin insert concerning our summertime “Concert on the Plaza” after the 5:00 PM Mass next Saturday evening.  Two of our parishioners are in the band, and refreshments will be available.  Bring your lawn chair or blanket to enjoy a relaxing summer evening.

Pope Francis has established this Sunday 25 July as the first “World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly” and so a bulletin insert is included this weekend with a prayer to honor this special day.

Two summers ago, I presided at the wedding of my niece who married a wonderful guy from Venice, Italy.  They now live there, and they just had a baby, so I am spending a few days visiting with them before returning to the office on Thursday this week.  Ciao!

Zoom Sessions this Week

Centering Prayer This practice of contemplative prayer helps us draw our attention from the ordinary flow of thoughts to an inner silence receptive to the presence of God.

Every Sunday at 4:30 PM

Scripture Study – Join us for a weekly scripture study through Zoom focusing on the readings for the upcoming weekend.  This type of scripture study gives us the chance to unpack and reflect upon the readings before we arrive at Mass, thus allowing us to benefit even more from our experience of hearing God’s Word.

Every Thursday at 7:00 PM
