God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song. God dwells within each human person, in the place where music takes its source.
Indeed, God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises.
– Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship
What a joy it’s been this past month and a half to once again hear our church building echo with your voices! A 14 month prohibition on congregational singing certainly served – for me, at least – to highlight the importance of music in our liturgies. I’d like to thank the members of our music ministries who volunteered when they could during this time. It wasn’t always easy – or even particularly fun – but we did our best.
As we return to a sense of normalcy, I’d like to take a moment to invite you to consider volunteering with our music ministry.
Next Tuesday, July 20th, we’re offering a “come and see” adult choir rehearsal at 7:00 in the church. While this will differ in many ways from a typical adult choir rehearsal, it should give you a sense of what to expect if you were to join. This ad hoc choir will then sing for the 11:00 Mass on July 25th. No experience is necessary, no commitment is necessary – just come, check us out, and see what you think! Sheet music will be provided; you’ll just need a pencil and water.
For younger folks, our high school youth band continues to rehearse occasionally throughout the summer. They rehearse Wednesdays at 6:00, and everyone in grades 8-12 is welcome to join any time.
Our children’s choir will resume this fall with rehearsals on Sundays from 10:20-10:40. After a nearly two year break I’m really looking forward to getting this group started again! The children’s choir is open to children in grades 2-7.
If you have any questions please shoot me an email and I’ll be happy to answer them as best as I can. Thank you so much!
Daniel
