Hello SKD family
As the pandemic has gone on, we all have had to adjust and adapt seemingly constantly to try and meet each other where we are. I can certainly empathize with many parents who are trying to manage full time jobs while having kids learning from home and now having to adjust to the possibility of a new schedule or even a new teacher. It is a lot to juggle. We have noticed that some parents are struggling with getting faith formation completed especially for our middle school and high school families. For this reason, we are bringing back youth group for middle and high school youth. It will be virtual live meetings at first with moving to in person as metrics improve.
Additionally, for families who are registered for Foundations of faith you can choose to use youth group as an alternative to faith formation for this year. I will be teaching each youth group night, while incorporating games and some social time. Each youth-night will be the equivalent of completing two FOF lessons. If you are interested in your middle or highs school student attending youth group either for fun or for faith formation credit (this is important if your child is registered for confirmation or wishes to register next year or any other sacramental prep). Otherwise, they do not need to register in faith formation to attend but their attendance will not be recorded.
For middle schoolers (grades 6th-8th) we will meet on the second and fourth Thursday of the month from February 11 and for high school we will end May 27th. For high schoolers we will meet the first and Third Thursday starting February 18th and ending June 3rd.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Also, if you don’t have a middle or high school student but know someone in the parish who does, feel free to forward this to them. If you don’t know anyone, we ask that you pray for us and our youth at this time. While some students will be moving into a new hybrid model of schooling soon, many of our youth are struggling with school and mental health illness. There will be changes that may cause some of your youth anxiety or continued isolation as schools move into a hybrid model. Thank you to all who through volunteering, donations, or spiritually continue to support our youth and our youth ministries.
God Bless
