We are slowly making progress in preparing the old family cemetery on our property to become a parish prayer garden and place of interment for those who are cremated. Thanks so much to Kevin Jardine who recently sprayed the weeds growing on the perimeter fencing (so much of it poison ivy!) in preparation for its imminent removal. We appreciate your generosity, Kevin!
I want to remind our parish teens that orientation meetings are being held this week on Sunday evening and Thursday evening concerning our Confirmation program. Please plan to attend with a parent and bring a copy of your baptism certificate along with you (if you were not baptized here at Saint Katharine Drexel). All teens at our parish are encouraged to confirm their faith in Christ and celebrate this final initiation sacrament during their high school years.
After taking an August break, our parish nurses will return next weekend to offering blood pressure screenings after all the Masses on the second Sunday of the month. Also, next weekend– if you would like to register as a new parishioner, our Prospective Members Orientation Session is taking place next Sunday.
Music Ministry is so important in our weekly worship of God, and we are so grateful for the creativity and dedication that music director Daniel Owens brings to this ministry. If you would like to share your musical talent (voice or instrumental) with our parish through our adult choir, children’s choir, African choir, or youth band, make sure you talk with Daniel after one of our weekend Masses.
The Labor Day holiday is such a beacon for change in our annual ritual—children go back to school, daily life is more structured, the vacation days of summer are behind us, and the weather begins to cool. Welcome to the new things of the fall season, and the opportunities for growth they bring to our lives and our families and our faith.
